About Base64 Encoder
Base64 represents data using only letters, numbers and a few symbols, so it can travel safely through systems that handle plain text, such as email, JSON and URLs.
This tool encodes text as UTF-8 first, so accented letters, other languages and emoji work correctly. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it, so never use it to protect secrets. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
Features
- Correct UTF-8 handling for any language and emoji
- Optional URL-safe output
- Live conversion as you type
- One-click copy
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. It only changes how data is represented, and anyone can reverse it. Do not use it to hide passwords or private data.
Why is the output longer than the input?
Base64 uses four characters for every three bytes, so output is about one third larger.
What is URL-safe Base64?
A variant that replaces + and / with - and _ and removes the = padding, so the result can be used in URLs and file names.
