About Password Generator
The Password Generator creates random passwords that are hard to guess. A longer password with a mix of character types takes far more attempts to crack than a short or predictable one.
Passwords are made with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, not Math.random. Each one is built on your device, is never sent to our server, and is not stored. The strength figure is an estimate of how many guesses a random password of that length and character mix would need. It cannot account for reuse or a website being breached.
Features
- Length from 4 to 128 characters
- Uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols
- Option to exclude look-alike characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0
- Strength estimate and one-click copy
Frequently asked questions
How long should a password be?
For accounts that matter, 16 characters or more is a good target when the password is random. A password manager means you do not have to remember it.
Is a generated password safe to use?
It is as strong as its length and character mix suggest, because every character is chosen randomly. Use a different password for every account, and turn on two-factor authentication where it is offered.
Why exclude look-alike characters?
Characters such as I, l and 1, or O and 0, are easy to confuse when typing a password by hand. Excluding them helps, with a very small reduction in strength.
Does this site see or store my passwords?
No. The password is generated in your browser and is not sent anywhere. Because it is not stored, copy it before you leave the page.
